With the latest announcement, PROSTAID Calgary continues its 30-year mission of providing education, support, and advocacy for prostate cancer patients. The February 2024 general meeting will feature epidemiologist Dr. Lin Yang, who will discuss updates on Tai Chi's benefits for prostate cancer patients. Her research focuses on the role of energy balance in cancer prevention and survivorship. She will share her studies examining the impact of obesity, physical activity, and sedentary behavior on cancer outcomes.

PROSTAID Calgary aims to inform and assist men and families through the open sharing of experiences with the disease and the latest medical information.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian men, with 1 in 8 expected to develop it in their lifetime, according to medical publications by the Canadian government. As treatments continue to improve survival rates, peer support groups like PROSTAID Calgary provide a forum for patients to learn and support each other's journeys.

The PROSTAID Calgary general meetings, held on the third Wednesday of each month, feature guest medical speakers and open discussion for attendees. Topics cover new developments in the detection, testing, and treatment of prostate cancer. No registration is required for the free general meetings. For those who cannot attend in person, PROSTAID Calgary provides a custom Zoom link to attend the meeting virtually.

For advanced prostate cancer patients, the Warriors group provides networking and information sharing in a less formal setting. The members discuss topics like clinical trials, management of the disease, and new treatment options. This allows survivors to support and learn from each other's experiences.

PROSTAID Calgary also offers a Wives, Partners, and Caregivers group as an informal gathering for those supporting loved ones through a prostate cancer diagnosis. By connecting with others in similar situations, members can find much-needed support.

"PROSTAID Calgary is here to assist and support patients, families, and friends by informing, empathizing, and reassuring men on their journey with prostate cancer," said Brad Sterling, President of PROSTAID Calgary. "By sharing our experiences, we can lift each other's spirits and strengthen our resolve to fight for quality of life and a cure."
